Mohammadreza Mahmoudi: Architect, Researcher, and Creator of New Narratives in Contemporary Architecture

I am Mohammadreza Mahmoudi, an architect and researcher working at the intersection of architecture, digital arts, and critical discourse. My primary focus lies in rethinking and redefining traditional Iranian architectural concepts within a contemporary framework, while exploring innovative ways to integrate history, technology, and creativity.

Architecture as a Narrative Medium

My work has always been driven by the belief that architecture is more than just physical construction. It is a medium for storytelling, critique, and reflecting societal values. This perspective has led me to focus on paper architecture and digital architecture, where the emphasis shifts from building to imagining and questioning the role of space in modern life.

Motion Diagram Studio: Merging Architecture and Technology

As the founder of Motion Diagram Studio, my goal has been to push the boundaries of architectural thought by leveraging motion graphics. At the studio, we explore how digital tools can be employed to analyze, design, and critique architecture. Motion graphics allow us to present complex architectural ideas in an engaging and accessible manner for diverse audiences.

Notable Projects

Over the years, I have undertaken several projects that reinterpret traditional Iranian architectural forms in a digital context. These include:

  • Modernizing Windcatchers and Domes: Utilizing digital tools, I redesigned these traditional forms to align with contemporary aesthetics and functions.
  • Analysis of Hakim Mosque, Isfahan: This project aimed to reimagine the spatial and geometric values of this historic building within a modern framework.

My Vision

My ambitions extend beyond creating visually appealing designs. I am deeply committed to fostering a critical discourse in Iranian architecture, one that redefines the boundaries between tradition and modernity. I believe contemporary Iranian architecture must honor its rich past while adapting to present-day needs and challenges.

Open to Collaboration

As someone passionate about teaching and engaging with the next generation of architects, I am always eager to join conversations and collaborative projects that explore innovative ideas. If you are interested in topics like digital architecture, motion diagrams, or the reinterpretation of Iranian forms, I would be delighted to collaborate and share insights.
